Privacy policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
TimeOverThere? is made by Paul M. Hoffman. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your contacts never leave your iPhone, and we collect nothing that identifies you.
Your contacts
With your permission, the app reads the contacts on your iPhone to find people with a phone number from another country and to work out their time zone. It then writes a small symbol (๐ , โ๏ธ or ๐ค) in the name prefix field of those contacts, and keeps it up to date.
All of this happens on your iPhone. Names, phone numbers and other contact details are never sent to us or to any third party. If your contacts sync through a service such as iCloud or Google, the symbol syncs along with the rest of the contact card through that service, the same as any change you make yourself.
You can remove every symbol at any time in the app under Settings โ Remove all symbols. Nothing else in your contacts is changed.
Keeping the symbols up to date
To change the symbols as the day goes by, our server sends your iPhone a silent wake-up message every 30 minutes through Apple's push notification service. For this, the app sends our server one thing: the push token Apple gives your iPhone for this app, a random code that contains no personal information. The server stores the token, whether it is for a test or a regular version of the app, and when it was registered and last seen. No contact details, names or phone numbers are ever sent.
When you delete the app, Apple tells our server the token is no longer valid, and the server removes it. Our server is hosted by Fly.io in the United States. As with any internet service, the hosting provider handles your iPhone's IP address while delivering messages; we do not store it.
No tracking, no ads, no account
The app contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking tools, and it does not ask you to create an account.
Purchases
Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, email address or payment details. Apple only tells the app what you have bought.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
